Companies wanting to thrive in the years ahead will need to rely heavily on business analytics, says Emiel van Bockel, chairman of the BI Competence Forum.

The first international speaker has been confirmed for the ITWeb Business Intelligence (BI) Summit 2015, and he will be joined by two of the shortlisted candidates for this year's Visionary CIO awards.

"This is the 10th annual BI summit from ITWeb and we're building on a legacy of expert speakers, to ensure this event remains the leading South African conference in its space," says Fay Humphries, events programme director at ITWeb.

Emiel van Bockel, chairman of the BI Competence Forum, will deliver a keynote on meeting the challenges of a rapidly digitising economy through the use of business analytics.

"The world is undergoing rapid change. Companies wanting to thrive in the years ahead will need to rely heavily on business analytics to provide the required insights and information on strategic, tactical and operational levels," says Van Bockel.

"Every organisation needs to think about the transition to digital business. Every leading company within the digital industry will have analytics incorporated in their services. No matter who your customers are, and where they are located, they are now your decision-makers, and keeping them will involve the efficient use of analytics."

Joining him as speakers are Lion of Africa CIO, Robert Boccia, and Tiger Brands CIO, Darryl Thwaits, both of whom have been shortlisted for the 2014 Visionary CIO Award. Boccia and Thwaits will present case studies on the effective use of BI within their companies and unpack how their strategies and implementations provide measurable value to their businesses.
